About

St. Peter’s Day Care has been providing licensed care since 1976. Our after school program at Adelaide Hoodless has been ongoing since 2014.

Mission Statement

St. Peter’s Day Care strives to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment that builds positive self-esteem for the child. Through play experience and teacher guidance, children will build upon their curiosity, initiative, and independence. These can be achieved by working with others in a positive and cooperative peer setting.

We follow the document “How Does Learning Happen”, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and the Ministry of Education’s Extended Day Program. Our staff use reflection exercises from these documents to review their observations of the children while engaging children in meaningful activities. Staff use these observations and reflections to better help children grow and develop. Through our program, we aim for the child to have opportunities for total development and we challenge the child to grow in all areas. Our program will stimulate curiosity and independence, cooperation with peers, motor development, and a sense of self-worth. We are proud participants of Raising the Bar, and have been since 2002.

Bringing Our Curriculum to Life

Classrooms

St. Peter’s Day Care has three large classrooms, designed for different age groups. Colourful painting and decorating makes each classroom a fun and welcoming environment. Each classroom has a variety of activities to keep children of the respective age groups active and stimulated. Each classroom has a Registered Early Childhood Education teacher and an assistant teacher.

Nutrition and Rest

Children are given a well-balanced and nutritious lunch and dessert. In addition to lunch, children are given a healthy snack in the morning and in the afternoon. After lunch, children go for a nap, so that they are energized for afternoon activities.

Activity

Children get 2 hours outside, with 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon. Our spacious outdoor area has features such as a large jungle gym, a grassy area for play, room to ride small bicycles, and other fun activities. In the event of rain or hot weather, children will spend their outside time in a large gymnasium, where they can ride bicycles, play with building blocks, or play in the doll centre.

Integration Program

An experienced Registered Early Childhood Education teacher from an external agency is available to provide individual program planning for children with special needs.

Fire Drills

St. Peter’s Day Care conducts a fire drill each month to ensure that children are familiar and comfortable with the safest ways to evacuate the building.

Arrivals and Departures

When a child arrives at day care, parents are responsible for taking their child’s coat and other outerwear off and making sure it is hung up in the child’s locker. Parents are also responsible for taking their child to the child’s designated area. When leaving, St. Peter’s cannot let the child leave with anyone other than their parents or caregiver, unless otherwise authorized by the child’s parents. If you have a change of address, work or home phone number, or would like to add or remove Emergency Contacts or Authorized Pick-Ups, please contact St. Peter’s Day Care immediately.

Absences and Holidays

Please inform St. Peter’s Day Care if your child will be absent with an illness or if your child will be on vacation.

Illness and Medication

We ask that you keep your child at home if they are displaying signs of illness. Your child must be sympton free for 24 hours before they can return to the day care. We can administer medication that has been prescribed by a doctor.

Parent Participation

We welcome parents to talk to the staff for feedback and updates about their child.
